As per tradition, GameDuell started a year full of events by attending Casual Connect . This year, a part of the GameDuell Team once again drove to the Casual Connect in Hamburg to discuss the latest trends and developments in the web, mobile and social games industry.

Presentation by Michael Kalkowski: How To Develop An Outstanding Work Place

Michael Kalkowski, Co-founder and Creative Director of GameDuell, held an insightful 20-minute presentation on company culture for the gathered professionals. His presentation, titled “Staying Lean and Vibrant: Secrets To Developing A World Class Work Place”, described GameDuell’s own measures to preserve the creativity and flexibility of a start-up company, despite the company’s growth.

GameDuell as Platinum Sponsor

Again this year, GameDuell actively supported the Casual Connect as a Platinum Sponsor. Here are some pictures from the event in Hamburg:

GameDuell on German TV Channel RTL

The Casual Connect event attracted reporters from all over Europe, including the largest German private broadcaster, RTL.

GameDuell's upcoming Tech Talk will take place on January 21 at 19:00 CET (admittance at 18:30 CET) in the GameDuell HQ at Taubenstraße 24-25 in Berlin-Mitte.

This time we'll host Jeanfrancois Arcand. The title of our first Tech Talk of 2013 is "Atmosphere Framework: WebSockets for Everyone, Everywhere!".

We are pleased to welcome Jeanfrancois Arcand to the GameDuell Tech Talk. Jeanfrancois is a visionary and pioneer specialized in the development of modern, asynchronous web frameworks for client-server communication.

In his presentation, Jeanfrancois will provide insight into what WebSocket protocol and Atmosphere Framework are, and how these can be used to effectively solve problems.

The Atmosphere Framework, invented by Jeanfrancois, has already shown a tendency to be included in the current specification standards JSP 356 as one of the first and only implementations of its kind. Furthermore, one of the advantages of Atmosphere Framework is that it can be used with all major application servers, i.e. JBoss, Glassfish and Tomcat.

At GameDuell, we regard technical knowledge as a significant competitive advantage. We promote Berlin as a location for online business and therefore also make an effort to learn more about and actively use the developments within this field even while still in the early stages. The Atmosphere Framework is already being used at GameDuell, particularly in the development of games using HTML5.

In order to take full advantage of this progress through technology, GameDuell emphasizes the importance of continuously training our developers through appropriate workshops and coaching. Therefore, we are also pleased to have arranged a comprehensive workshop between Jeanfrancois Arcand and our developers. The workshop will take place before the Tech Talk.

The GameDuell Tech Talk with prominent guest speakers usually takes place every 2-3 months

This agenda

The Atmosphere Framework allows the creation of portable Comet and WebSocket applications across browser and server. In this session Jeanfrancois will first introduce the new WebSocket technology and show how easy it is to write such application using the Atmosphere Framework.

Next he will introduce Atmosphere's WebSocket clients Java and JavaScript. He will then demonstrate how WebSocket applications can be highly scaled using Redis's data structure server. The session will conclude by deploying the WebSocket application into environments that don't support the protocol and how Atmosphere can transparently emulate WebSocket support.

The speaker

Jeanfrancois is currently leading the Atmosphere Frawework at Wordnik.com. He is the creator of Atmosphere, a framework for building powerful websocket and comet application. He is also the author of the Grizzly Framework, the powerful NIO front end used by the GlassFish Application Server and the author if AHC, an asynchronous HTTP client library.

Jeanfrancois has also contributed to Tomcat, Apache Commons, etc.

About the GameDuell Tech Talk & Sign-up

Bubble Speed, GameDuell’s popular title – known from their own platform GameDuell.com and Facebook - has made the jump to mobile and is out now!

Available for both the iPhone and iPod Touch, Bubble Speed is also available for the iPad with full retina support. Not merely a port of the Facebook version of Bubble Speed, the iPad and iPhone versions have been designed specifically for the hardware and are fully optimized for each.

The game is free to download across all devices with boosts available for purchase in-game. The hallmark of GameDuell’s titles is cross-platform compatibility, which is ever present in Bubble Speed iOS.

You can download the game from iTunes here and jump right into the action.

Enjoy the high speed of Bubble Speed

Speed is the optimum word with Bubble Speed. The world’s fastest bubble shooter tasks players to form groups of 3 or more like colored bubbles and score as many points as possible before the timer runs out. With intuitive and accurate controls, Bubble Speed also features all the great stuff you know already from the Facebook version such as leveling, plentiful rewards and diverse boosts like Multiplier, Bomb, Color Squid, Time and Line Breaker to keep the game fresh and exciting.

With true cross-platform gaming, Bubble Speed players can compete against friends playing the Facebook version of the game in weekly tournaments. Gamers can also play on both platforms and see their progress, coins, lives and scores synced across each. GameDuell, long a proponent of cross-platform gaming, has recently published an infographic on the subject which you are free to use as you like and is found below.
